Growing and making decisions

Post-docs

As a post-doc, you are increasingly involved in a work structure that requires you to deal with activities outside of pure research work. You do project work, have more and more administrative tasks and deal with your own external impact in networks and groups. Adequate communication with colleagues and partners becomes more important, as does the question of what to do next professionally.

I offer coaching and workshops for female postdoctoral students on the following topics:

Communication

Topics

  • How do I make myself more visible and stand up for my ideas and interests?
  • Making difficult conversations easier with coaching methods

The exact content and topics of the coaching are always based on the individual needs of the client.

Career

Topics

  • Profiling: Recognising, valuing and confidently communicating one’s own competences
  • Should I Stay or Should I Go: Goals inside and outside academia

The exact content and topics of the coaching are always based on the individual needs of the client.

Life balance

Topics

  • Dealing well with acute crises and workloads
  • Strengthening resilience with positive psychology approaches

The exact content and topics of the coaching are always based on the individual needs of the client.

Career

In career coaching, we specify your strengths and skills and appreciate your career to date. We talk about how you can strategically set up and pursue your career in science and research and specify next steps and a longer timeline. Should you decide on an alternative career path, we work out alternatives to your previous path and “translate” them into sectors outside of science. If desired, this can also include the revision of application documents and application training.

Communication

In addition to your academic work, administrative and leadership tasks also increase at this stage of your work. Good internal and external communication is becoming increasingly important. In coaching, we work on how you can develop a profile and adequately present your competencies and wishes to the outside world, even in difficult situations.

Through good discussion techniques, we enable and empower your employees to find solutions in discussion and to lead themselves. In coaching, we talk about strength-focused self-presentation and constructive discussion design and methods.

Life balance

When you burn for something as much as you do for your subject, you run the risk of burning out. High commitment and great desire for what you do mean long working days, continuous dependence on funding or fixed-term employment relationships mean perpetual uncertainty about what will happen next in your career. In the “rush hour of life”, care work is added to the mix, be it children or ageing parents. Making time for oneself in this conglomeration of demands or making the workload meaningful is a perennial challenge. In coaching, we talk about strategies for self-care and approaches from positive psychology for more serenity.
